To'on: The Story of Contemporary Mayans

To'on is another project I developed with Adriaan Schalkwijk in 2014. We worked amongst historians, photographers, linguists and ethnographers to show a glimpse at contemporary Mayan towns in the southern territory of Mexico.

The museography as a concept is developed around 7 Mayan legends that represent the same values in today's societies than thousands of years ago.

The exhibition took place inside the Palacio Cantón, an old palace from one of Merida's richest families during the 1900's and was comprised of a series of "sensory chambers" that picture behaviors and characteristics of contemporary Mayans with images, objects, textures and sound.
